The Immigrant Justice Project of the Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking a bilingual (Spanish and English) Outreach Paralegal for its Immigrant Justice Project. The position will be based in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Immigrant Justice Project focuses on the employment and civil rights of migrant farmworkers and other low-wage immigrant workers and brings high-impact cases in nine states in the Southeast.
The Outreach Paralegal will perform extensive outreach to current and prospective clients and community organizations and assist with field investigations, discovery, and evidence preparation. He or she will also assist the Center’s attorneys with case management and support, conduct research, and organize information. Outreach to clients will involve substantial overnight travel.
Qualifications*:Fluent in Spanish and English required and Malayalam and Hindi preferred
Experience working with and for low wage and immigrant workers
Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced work environment
Strong organizational skills, follow-through, and flexibility around changing priorities and deadlines
Ability to work effectively as part of a team to develop new cases and legal initiatives
Ability to work on several cases at once and take direction from several attorneys
Strong communication skills
Understanding and sensitivity to issues client populations face
Passion for social justice
Commitment to a client-centered approach to advocacy and ability to working on delicate issues in a compassionate and sensitive manner
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Manage and maintain routine client communication (by phone and in person)
Case management and support including substantial document management
Settlement administration
Developing and executing outreach strategies to current and prospective clients and community organizations
Outreach and community education, including, but not limited to Know Your Rights presentations, door to door canvassing and community meetings
Discovery information management and trial preparation
Researching and investigating facts of case including detailed intake interviews
Willingness to travel and work long hours, including weekends, as needed
Location: This position will be based in Atlanta, Georgia. SPLC will pay reasonable relocation costs.Deadline: Applications will be accepted through August 15th
